Weekend weather: Best and worst places to run

Southern Ontario runners are in their element this weekend. It’s the warmest one so far this year. That means that for those living in that portion of the provinces, there’s no need for excuses. Runners will be flooding to sidewalks and trails everywhere where cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Today, southern Ontario is above seasonal with Toronto temperatures at 18C and climbing.

The rest of the country isn’t so lucky. Western Canada had some stormy weather on the forecast for yesterday and into today. Northern Manitoba was expecting storm and heavy rainfall. The provinces capital is grey and cloudy right now but things will clear up and heat up by later today. Runners there will be running in a balmy 27C. That will drop down to 11C by tomorrow.

Moving farther west, Edmonton is currently 6C– a little chilly. Any Canadians getting ready to race the Vancouver Marathon tomorrow will be happy with the 10C weather right now– not too hot, not too cold. It will be about 16C and mostly sunny for the race tomorrow.

As for Atlantic Canada, things are slowly getting more spring-like. Snow in Charlottetown on Tuesday was enough to break records for the 2014-2015 season. They haven’t seen snow much snow over a winter since 1972. Newfoundlanders saw foggy weather yesterday with flurries in some spots too. It’s finally May though so things can only get better from here.
