Weekend weather: Best and worst places to run in Canada

In Canada, it’s that unpredictable time of year that really seems to tests the patience of runners. Sure it’s been warming up, but in March, we shed the layers with caution ready for the cold snap to make a boomerang comeback. Parts of the country have been really lucky lately with a nice wave of spring weather. Here’s your report on the best and worst places to run in Canada this weekend:

The southern Prairies are enjoying a nice warm snap. But anyone in that part of Canada should enjoy it while it lasts. Especially those in Calgary or Edmonton where the sun in shining this afternoon and temperatures hover at around 11C. The warm air is temporary though. Runners here will be seeing snow by Sunday.

B.C. is mild as usual. Today, west coasters will enjoy a one-day heat wave. In Prince George, it’s 11C with sunny skies.

Those perfect running conditions will make Quebec and northern Ontario runners jealous. Quebec is expecting heavy snow– up to 10 cm whereas Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie might even get 20 cm.

The Maritimes are getting some major Friday the 13th weather too. A big storm is brewing in the east with special weather statements going out for the Atlantic provinces.  St. John’s will see a high of -15C.

Southern Ontario isn’t so bad. It’s expected to rain later tonight and into Saturday but after a harsh winter, runners are sure to think nothing of a little rainfall.
