The national junior women’s team broke Canada’s 4x400m record in Eugene, Ore., over the weekend.

The team of Taylor Sharpe, Kendra Clarke, Christian Brennan and Madeline Price raced to a time of 3:33.17 on Sunday at the world junior championships. They broke the previous record of 3:34.50 from 2010 by over a second. The team finished one spot off the podium in fourth.

Many of the athletes who have competed for Canada at the world junior championships will go on to be the country’s best at the senior ages as well, representing Canada at the Olympics and other major events.

Brennan also finished seventh in the women’s 400m final with a time of 54.12.

Other strong performances from the weekend included an eighth place finish in the men’s 5,000m for Justyn Knight with a personal best of 14:08.93, a ninth place finish for Katelyn Ayers in the 1,500m with a 4:17.01 personal best and Ben Preisner’s 11th place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase.
