Wyoming man Brent Weigner set to finish ninth set of marathon world tours

No one except Brent Weigner has ever run an ultramarathon at both the North and South Pole.

The 64-year-old is scheduled to run the 2014 White Continent Marathon on Jan. 26, which will mark the final race in his ninth set of marathons on every continent. In 2013 he finished running a marathon on each continent for the eighth time, a record. The ninth set will better his own mark.

Weigner, a former geography teacher and cross-country coach, has run 224 marathons and ultramarathons and in 1999 also became the first person to have run an ultramarathon on every continent.

The resident of Cheyenne, Wyo., who has has on three occasions successfully battled cancer, is also a three-time U.S. national snowshoe champion.
