Video of older man dancing, cheering on Berlin Marathon runners goes viral

One of the most popular videos to surface from last Sunday's Berlin Marathon comes from a dancing fan who was spotted cheering on runners.

Berlin Marathon Dancer

With all the drama that unfolded at the front of the pack at last weekend’s Berlin Marathon, one of the most popular videos to surface from the race comes courtesy of a spectator instead of a runner.

An older man was spotted on course dancing, clapping and cheering on the estimated 40,000 runners who took to the streets of the German capital. Some users on Facebook are claiming that the elderly man is Bernhard Enste, a 67-year-old local figure who is widely known on the Berlin electronic music scene.

The video, first posted on Sept. 26, has been seen more than 2.9 million times on Facebook, aided by the 28,000 shares. The race course was lined with spectators on Sunday but none were more popular than the dancer.

Nadine Pritzkow, the user who posted the video to Facebook, captioned the post with (translated) “He was for sure the coolest during the Berlin marathon on Sunday.”

The Berlin Marathon organizing committee re-shared the video and captioned it “That’s Berlin, guys like him make the city and BMW BERLIN-MARATHON unique!” The Berlin Marathon is often regarded as one of the world’s fastest races and has historically produced many world records.

The man was also at the inline skating marathon on Saturday as thousands previewed the Berlin Marathon course on roller blades before runners took over the course the following Sunday morning.
