VIDEO: Blair Morgan goes after worlds standard in debut marathon

Canadian first-time marathoner Blair Morgan chats after making his debut at the Prague Marathon on Sunday in the Czech Republic.

Blair Morgan had Athletics Canada’s IAAF World Championships marathon standard on his mind in Prague on the weekend.

Gunning for a sub-2:19 performance in the Czech Republic, Morgan, 23, was on pace for his target through the halfway point of the IAAF Gold Label race. With a 1:09:35 first half split, Morgan, who was making his marathon debut, fell off pace and came through in 2:22:14 for 17th overall among men. That time averages out to 3:23 per kilometre.

“Made it to 32K before the wheels came off,” Morgan wrote on Twitter after the race. “Went for it and didn’t have quite enough. 2:22:14 debut is alright by me.”

The event took place on Sunday morning overseas and Alan Brookes, race director for Canada Running Series, caught up with Morgan afterwards. Check out the featured video for the Hamilton post-race thoughts and what’s in the cards for his future.
