One would think that there was a game of fetch going on the track this weekend as this dog interrupted the women’s 100m dash midway through the race. The race was at the Carifta Games in St. George’s, Grenada.

The black-furred canine was standing in lane two as the runners sprinted past forcing the athlete in the inner-most lane to stutter step. The incident occurred during heat one of the under-18 women’s 100m race at the annual games founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA).

The competitor in lane three, Jessie Zali of Martinique, finished second despite her encounter with the eager dog runner.

The whole race is made better by the announcer’s monotone reaction, “oh, there’s a dog,” as if it’s a regular occurrence. The annual event includes only Caribbean nations with two age categories: under-18 and under-20.

Jamaican great Usain Bolt is one of many high-profiled athletes to have participated in the Carifta Games.

Full footage of the dog on the track can be found below:

A looped version of the video can be found below courtesy of Spikes. How the dog made its way into an enclosed stadium remains unclear.

Now if only the dog would run the race from start to finish like this adorable bloodhound who went viral for his efforts.
