Drone captures bird’s-eye view of the 2015 Honolulu Marathon start line

A drone captured footage of the starting line at the 2015 Honolulu Marathon on Sunday with more than 20,000 participants racing in Hawaii.

The Honolulu Marathon on Sunday attracted more than 22,029 participants and a drone caught some bird’s-eye footage of the starting line before sunrise.

Fireworks filled the sky in the early hours of the morning on Dec. 13 with the race beginning at 5:00 a.m. local time in an effort to avoid the heat.

Filex Kiprotich triumphed in the men’s race running 2:11:43, 30 seconds off the course record, while Joyce Chepkirui won the women’s marathon in 2:28:34.

With a recent uptick in the use of drones, the Federal Aviation Administration announced that beginning on Dec. 21, 2015, unmanned drones will require registration.
