Pan Am Games medals unveiled

The Royal Canadian Mint unveiled the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games medals on Tuesday morning.

The medals, made with materials supplied by Barrick Gold, are the first to have braille on both the Para Pan Am and Pan Am versions.

The copper is from Chile, the silver from the Dominican Republic and the gold from Northern Ontario. The medals were designed and cast by a team of 30 employees at the Mint who have extensive experience in producing medals for athletic events.

“The medals they receive will be a symbol of their dedication to excellence in sport,” said Toronto’s mayor, John Tory, about the athletes who will compete. “The Games will have a long-lasting sports legacy for our city and I encourage Torontonians to take in the events and cheer on the athletes as they go for gold!”

The Pan Am Games are set to be held in the Toronto region from July 10-26. Canada will send it’s largest team ever with 700 athletes.
