VIDEO: Justyn Knight throws down, repeats as conference champion

Another race, another win for Canada's Justyn Knight as the Syracuse student takes the Atlantic Coast Conference 5,000m on Friday.

Justyn Knight

Syracuse University’s Justyn Knight repeated as the Atlantic Coast Conference indoor champion on Friday winning the men’s 5,000m for the second consecutive year. The Toronto native, 20, narrowly missed qualifying for Canada’s Olympic team and is becoming (if not already) one of the nation’s top long-distance runners.

Knight won the indoor 5,000m in 13:50.27, two seconds ahead of NC State’s George Parsons. Per Syracuse University, Knight’s time on Friday is the 19th-fastest in the United States in 2017 though he is capable of much faster as conference races are often tactical.

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships are being held at Notre Dame University in Indiana and will conclude on Saturday. The ACC is generally regarded as one of the strongest conferences, which act as precursors for nationals, in the United States.

Not only is it conference weekend in the United States, Canadian university athletes are competing in their respective lead-ups to the national indoor championships. Those championships include Canada West, OUAs (Ontario), RSEQ (Quebec), and AUS (Atlantic Region). Stay tuned for a full recap of those events once the action concludes.
