VIDEO: This runner suffers more than just sore legs at a Belgium marathon…

Video has surfaced of a runner in Belgium being stopped in his tracks after he runs into a pole on the side of the road after taking a sharp turn on route.

Marathon runner

One unfortunate runner at a marathon in Belgium was caught on film running into a pole as he turned a blind corner. The recently-surfaced video, which was posted to LiveLeak, showed a runner hitting his groin area against a roadside pole.

The pole was immediately following a sharp turn on the course, which was a blind spot for runners including the man in the blue speedsuit. He needed to walk it off for a brief moment but did not look seriously injured.

As can be seen in the video, the pole is located where the road and the sidewalk meet. Prior to the turn, runners were guided by a set of orange cones marking the 42.2K course. To make things worse, the runner behind the man in blue partially collided into him because of the sudden stop.

With a pair of runners in front of him, the blue-suited runner could only see a few metres in front of him at most. Perhaps for following editions of the race, organizers could paint the pole a bright colour. Alternatively, officials could remove the pole altogether for the duration of the race.

The video was posted to LiveLeak on July 18 and has been seen more than 77,000 times.
