VIDEO: Michal Kapral’s mesmerizing joggling commute through Toronto

Get a first-hand experience of world record holder Michal Kapral's joggling commute on some of Toronto's busiest streets.

Pedestrians in central Toronto may have come across the world famous joggler on their recent commute. Michal Kapral, the world record holder for fastest marathon (2:50:12 set in 2007) while juggling, filmed his run home with mesmerizing results.

“The route is about 8K from Bloor and University to Danforth and Main,” Kapral explains. “The video covers about three-quarters of it, on and off. I lost the video of the last section, unfortunately, as it has some funny moments from passers-by. It’s amazing how far the run seems on video, and how much twisting and turning I have to do to slalom through the people. I’ve never worn a GPS on the run but it feels like I cover an extra kilometre with the weaving.”

Much of the footage is shot along Bloor Street, one of Toronto’s busiest streets that runs east-west. He then runs over the Don River and Don Valley Parkway via the Prince Edward Viaduct. As seen in the video, Kapral avoids parked bikes, pedestrians and trees, in some instances cutting through large crowds of people.

Kapral says that he “looks through them” when talking about keeping focus on the road while also juggling three beanbags. Other than his world records, one of his more impressive feats is having run the entire Chicago Marathon without a single drop. Drops are permitted though one must come to a complete stop and restart from the spot of the drop.

The Toronto resident has a lifetime non-juggling best of 2:30 in the marathon.

Kapral, who is also the former editor of Canadian Running, has hinted at the idea of running a winter holiday-themed race while juggling. But instead of beanbags, he would replace the three items with jingling bells. The plan is the Santa Burlington Race on Nov. 26.
