North Vancouver resident Ellie Greenwood took her trail running talents overseas recently to star in Salomon Running TV’s latest episode, Barcelona. The 37-year-old Salomon-sponsored athlete was filmed running the streets of Spain’s second most populated city alongside American runner Max King.
As described on Salomon Running’s website, “Max King and Ellie Greenwood find themselves immersed in the streets of Barcelona. From dark gothic alleyways to vibrant beaches, they discover a city of contrasts as they explore on foot.”
Greenwood is one of the world’s most accomplished trail runners having won the Western States 100-mile endurance race and the Comrades Marathon. Greenwood has also run sub-2:45 in the marathon.
Earlier this year, she raced at the Chuckanut 50K in Bellingham, Wash., an event she won in 4:11:58. She is originally from the U.K. but now resides in B.C.
The film was shot during the summer of 2015 and was released on April 19, 2016. King, an accomplished ultrarunner who won the IAU world 100K championships in 2014 as well as a bronze medal at the North American, North American, Central American and Caribbean cross-country championships in 2016, joined Greenwood on the tour of Barcelona.
Coincidentally, Greenwood just finished up a training stint in Europe this past month as she was in the U.K. with Salomon and tried out fell racing for the first time, according to her Facebook page. Fell running is another term for mountain running.
