Ed Whitlock

Watch Canadian Running‘s tribute to the late Ed Whitlock, the owner of a multitude of age-group world records, who passed away in March 2017 at the age of 86. The masters runner was an icon on the Canadian, and global, running scene and helped propel the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) to international recognition with his remarkable world records, most notably his clocking of 2:54:48 at the age of 73. No other person over 70 has broken three hours in the marathon, which Whitlock did as late as 74 (2:58:40).

Canada Running Series, the organizers of the STWM, are remembering Whitlock (#RememberingEd on social media) in a variety of ways including having three pacers who will complete the race in the times of his notable world records, a signing wall and a display of his most cherished running memorabilia at the expo. Neil Whitlock, one of Ed’s two sons, was in attendance at the athlete press conference where the tribute was shown publicly for the first time.
