VIDEO: This is why you always run hard through the finish line

Huddle

The women’s 10,000m took place at the IAAF World Championships on day three in Beijing. Kenyan runner Vivian Cheruiyot took the win in 31:41:31. In second place was Gelete Burka who ran 31:41:77.

But the talk of the race was the dramatic finish by two Americans for third.

After leading the race for the last few laps, it looked as if Molly Huddle was set to win bronze as she chased the two East Africans down the home stretch. Huddle seemed to ease up as she crossed the finish, thinking she had third place sewn up. That’s when team mate Emily Infeld came charging down the inside lane at the last second, right at the moment Huddle raised her arms up in the air in celebration of medalling at the event. Infeld stole the bronze in 31:43:49; Huddle finished with a time of 31:43:58. Huddle was devastated after the race, but did manage to congratulate her teammate before crumpling on the track.

A lesson in why it’s important to always run as hard as you can through the finish line.
