VIDEO: Leisurely run turns into an all-out sprint from wild animal

A man and his dog were out for what appears to be a leisurely run when a wild animal ran onto the trail and began chasing the two.

Deer chases runner

A man and his companion had an unexpected source of adrenaline while out on a run.

Running on a trail next to a body of water, a wild animal that appears to be a female elk, one of the largest species in the deer family, took a break from hydrating and began running with the man and his dog. When the two increased their pace, so did the wild animal. The tempo pace quickly turned into an all-out sprint as the three rounded the corner of the embankment.

“What luck,” the video headline, translated from French, reads. “In addition to his dog, this runner has found a new running mate.”

Also in the picture is an elderly gentleman walking his two dogs in the opposite direction of the runner. The walking man seems unfazed by the entire situation. Also, there appears to be someone talking photographs from the lane closest to the incident.

The video has been viewed more than 388,000 times on Facebook as of Nov. 15, a week after its posting date, and received an additional 4,300 likes and 4,400 shares. The video is a repost from footage captured in 2015. It’s believed that the video was shot at Evergreen Lake in Colorado; it’s not clear how long the man was attempting to outrun the animal for.
