NNormal, the shoe brand launched by mountain athlete Kilian Jornet and the Spanish shoe brand Camper in 2022, has launched an exciting update to its long-run trail/hiking shoe, the Tomir. With two extra millimetres of cushioning in the midsole, your long-run experience in the Tomir just got even better.

Tomir 2.0 is designed for long trail runs and hiking. With a durable ripstop TPE upper, a supercritical foam midsole, a Vibram Litebase outsole and 5 mm lugs, it will take you far, and it can handle difficult terrain with ease. The shoe’s Ortholite insole and moulded arch combine to make it extremely comfortable for long days on the trail.

This is not a radical update, since the shoe’s original design worked out pretty well as a workhorse on the trails. The rocker profile has been enhanced, for smoother transitions. The upper, with reinforcement provided by overlays, a toe cap and threads designed to look like contour lines on a topo map, appears mostly unchanged from the original version, as is the asymmetrical lacing system, which slants toward the medial (inside) side, to relieve pressure on the instep.

More cushioning

With a couple of extra millimetres of cushioning, the new version will help you go longer before you start to fatigue. As a result, it is slightly heavier than the original, but the basic geometry and offset/drop are unaffected (it still has an 8 mm drop), and it’s still a relatively light shoe. Keep in mind that it’s not designed for racing–for that, you’re more likely to select the Kjerag, which Jornet wore to win the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) in 2022.

The shoe is available in three unusual and arresting colourways, and a mid-ankle-height boot is also available (in two colours). Note that this is a unisex shoe.
