The winner of the 2022 Ultra-Trail Harricana’s 125K women’s race, Edmonton’s Priscilla Forgie, spent a few moments on the ground this weekend. “I was joking with a friend that I may have spent just as much time on the trails vertically as I did horizontally,” Forgie shared on Instagram. “In between all the cursing and whimpering, I made sure to not take myself too seriously.”

It was Forgie’s first time racing UTHC, finishing in 17 hours, 37 minutes, only three weeks after she demolished Squamish 50, where she won the 50K and the 50/50 event.

The course may be challenging, but UTHC is a trail festival of joy and dirt in one of the most picturesque and unique locations in North America. Held in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, UTHC is particularly spectacular as it weaves through mountains, lakes, rivers, and boreal forests.

Most of the course is singletrack, heavy on tripping hazards. The trail combines technical footwork with runnable sections and four mountain summits. UTHC traditionally offers 5K, 10K, 28K, 42K, 65K and 125K options for runners, as well as a 1K run for kids.

In the 125K event, Forgie was followed by Quebec City’s Mylene Sancoucy in 17:54, and Montreal’s Genevieve Asselin-Demers in 18:33 (sixth and ninth overall, respectively).

Overall 125K winner and men’s first place finisher Elliot Cardin, of Bromont, Que., had a bit of familiarity with the UTHC trails, after finishing in second place in the 2020 race, and winning the 65K race in 2018. Cardin was second in the 52K event at Quebec Mega Trail earlier this summer.

Cardin was a favourite heading into this year’s event and ran a blistering 14 hours, 43 minutes. Cardin was followed by fellow Quebec natives Jacob Baril-Arneson in 16:28, and Gabriel Sanfaçon in 16:31.
