Gary Robbins and his crew team are preparing for the 2018 Barkley Marathons in the early spring.
The North Vancouver, B.C.’s latest reveal includes “team jerseys” for the more-than 100-mile trail race in Frozen Head State Park, Tenn.
“Team jerseys for our next visit to Frozen Head [State Park], via a Christmas surprise from my lovely wife,” Robbins writes. “Thanks to David Papineau for the design.”
The design includes a “no bugles” and “team Gary” text block as well as a crossed out bugle. (“Taps” is played on the bugle when a Barkley Marathons participant is unable to finish the race.) Another shirt, for the youngest Robbins, reads “My daddy ran for sixty hours in the Tennessee backwoods and all I got was this lousy T-shirt.”

This year marks Robbins’s third attempt (2016 and 2017 recaps) at the Barkley. He has 60 hours to complete five 20-mile (likely longer) loops of the unmarked course. Fifteen runners have completed the race to date so far, with a select group having done so on multiple occasions. The race is held annually on the weekend of April Fools.
