Kelsey Hogan breaks her own Quebec Mega Trail 100-mile course record

Twenty-eight-year-old Kelsey Hogan of Steady Brook, N.L., has not only defended her title as the fastest woman to run the Quebec Mega Trail 100-miler, but she’s also broken her own record. Arriving Saturday night to the finish line at Mont Ste-Anne ski resort 40 minutes east of Quebec City, Hogan shaved more than three and a half hours off her previous record, arriving in 24:34:58. This is her second consecutive win for the event. The 100-mile race kicked off on Friday evening at Le Hotel and Spa Le Germain Charlevoix in Baie St-Paul, 66 km east of Mont Ste-Anne. Around 150 runners participated in the 100-mile race.

Hogan had a strong start, steadily holding 16th place overall until mid-morning Saturday, when she began pulling ahead, ultimately finishing in eighth place overall.

Hogan has had an impressive year since her last QMT win. Since then, she’s placed first female/fourth overall at Mactaquac Trail Race (20 km, 1:56:57) and 10th female/third senior female/top Canadian at Grand Raid Réunion Diagonale des Fous (165 km, 37:01:05). Of the female athletes, Ariel Cudmore of Sainte-Beatrix, Que., placed second with a time of 26:07:43, followed by Anne Bouchard from Bromont, Que., who was third, in 27:54:08.

QMT 110 Results

Spain’s Urko Larranaga placed first with a time of 13:51:23. Placing second was France’s Sylvain Camus in 14:14:49. In third, Quebec’s Antoine Blais in 14:43:16.

For the women, Montreal’s Genevieve Asselin finished seventh with a time of 15:14:32. Leah Nicholson from the USA finished in 18:03:16, and Quebec’s Valerie Collin rounded out the top three with a time of 18:13:37.

QMT 80K results

Ryan Patterson from Calgary took first place with a time of 09:08:26. In second place, Montreal’s Jeetesh Rao Lukea was only minutes behind, in 09:13:42. Eric Drolet from La Turque, Que., finished third in 09:26:18.

For the women, Mylène Sansoucy crossed the finish line first with 10:09:20, followed by
Catherine Lemire from Lac Saint-Joseph, Que., with 11:03:22. Calgary’s Emily Coleman finished third
with 11:59:02.

QMT 50K results

Jean-Philippe Thibodeau from Saint-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que., took the top spot with a time of 04:55:51. Montreal’s Patrick Lehoux-Gagnon came in second in 05:07:59. In third was Calgary’s Mitchell Valic, who finished with a time of 05:26:01.

The top three women were all Quebec runners. Amelie Simard finished first with a time of 05:54:40,
followed by Alex Castonguay in 06:09:54. In third was Sarah Baribeau, who finished in 06:34:55.

QMT 25K results

Meikael Beaudoin-Rousseau of the U.S. won the 25K race, which is now part of Salomon’s Golden Trail National Series, in 1:48:11; Samuël Poher of Quebec was second, in 1:55:03, and Jeffrey Stern of Hamilton was third, in 1:58:38. (Two-time Olympian Reid Coolsaet, who has struggled with injury this season, finished fourth, in 1:58:58. Coolsaet won the 110K event in 2021.) 

On the women’s side, Anne Marie Comeau from St-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que., took the win with a time of 02:07:44. In second was USA’s Alayna Sonnesyn, just minutes behind in 02:11:37. USA’s Rachel Tomajczyk placed third, with a time of 02:16:15. Comeau, a former road runner, recently represented Canada at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Innsbruck, Austria.
