Hundreds of hardy runners took to the trails yesterday for the ninth edition of XTrail Sutton, part of the Asics XTrail Series, in Quebec’s beautiful Eastern Townships southeast of Montreal.

XTrail Sutton consists of a 22K, 11.8K and 6.5K trail race almost exclusively on singletrack. Runners must navigate among rocks, roots, mud, streams, and wildlife (moose and bear sightings are common). There is also a 1K kids’ race.

This race is also the Eastern Canadian Mountain Running Championship. The top three age group finishers in each distance have qualified for the Canadian Mountain Running Championships at Golden, B.C. on June 9.
