Cam Levins posts another promising result, this time at Falmouth Road Race

The 28-year-old Black Creek, B.C. native runs his fourth race of 2017 and finishes fifth at the Falmouth Road Race in Massachusetts

Another weekend, another race, another step towards peak fitness for Cam Levins.

The 28-year-old raced for the second time in three weeks on Sunday at the Falmouth Road Race on Cape Cod in eastern Massachusetts. The annual seven-mile road race was Levins’ fifth race of 2017 following extended time off after surgery to repair damage to his ankle and lower leg.

For the 11.26K course, Levins placed fifth running 33:35, 1:21 back of the men’s winner, Stephen Sambu, who won his record fourth Falmouth Road Race title. Sambu tied, in finishing time, with Leonard Korir but was given the nod by a few tenths of a second.

Levins, the Black Creek, B.C. native, who held the Canadian 10,000m record until recently, split 14:31 through 5K and 29:41 through 10K. He ran with the leaders through the first 5K, one second back of the then-lead. His average pace comes out to a blistering 2:58 per kilometre.

The Canadian notably left the Nike Oregon Project in June and has been training under his Southern Utah University coach Eric Houle. Levins told Canadian Running in July that he’s running unsponsored at the moment but is confident in returning to the level – 13:15.19 for 5,000m and 27:07.51 for 10,000m – he was once at. He is back to running, on occasion, three times a day in a high-mileage program.

Dave McGillivray, the race director for the Boston Marathon, puts on the New Balance-sponsored event. The race features a picturesque point-to-point seaside course.
