Gebrselassie to run in Tokyo

World record holder Haile Gebrselassie to run in Tokyo Marathon on Feb. 27.

World Record holder Haile Gebrselassie will run this year’s Tokyo Marathon on Feb. 27. This will be Geb’s first race since the 2010 New York Marathon in November. In New York, Geb failed to finish and abruptly announced, in a post-race press conference, that he was retiring from the sport. Fortunately, he soon changed his mind and is apparently ready to return to racing.

This is far and away the strongest field ever assembled for the Tokyo Marathon. Geb will be joined by another aging lion, former great Felix Limo, who from 2004-2006 won the Rotterdam, Berlin, Chicago, and London marathons. Also running is up and comer Yemane Tsegaye of Ethiopia, who ran a 2:06.30 at the 2009 Paris marathon.
