Grouse Mountain’s top grinder conquers trail 871 times in 2016

The top grinders of 2016 are Jason Chong and Sarah Tomlinson, who have completed North Vancouver's Grouse Grind 871 and 721 times, respectively.

Grouse Mountain released its list of top climbers and Jason Chong tops the charts having completed the Grouse Grind 871 times in 2016. Sarah Tomlinson was the top woman in 2016 completing the Grouse Grind 721 times. Statistics are as of Nov. 19.

Chong and Tomlinson also lead the all-time rankings for most completions of the Grouse Grind.

The Grouse Grind trail is located in North Vancouver, B.C. and begins at the base of the mountain, located at 300m elevation, and finishes at 1,100m. The mountain trail is approximately 2.9K and includes 2,830 steps. The trail is sometimes referred to as “Mother Nature’s Stairclimber.”

Grouse Mountain offers a timing card for Grouse Grind regulars that tracks the frequency of completion.

The trail is still open, according to the official report from Grouse Mountain. The Grouse trail, one of Greater Vancouver’s more popular tourist attractions for outdoor activities, opened in April. Downhill hiking of the trail is not permitted.

The record for fastest completions of Grouse Mountain are 23:48 by Sebastian Salas and Stephanie Hamilton’s 32:08.
