WATCH: LEADMAN: The Dave Mackey Story

Billy Yang and Matt Trappe release their film following the story of amputee Dave Mackey at the Leadville Race Series

As trail runners, we deal with the unexpected–on the trails and in life. On May 23, 2015, endurance trail runner Dave Mackey faced the unexpected on a familiar run. A giant boulder shifted and sent the athlete falling down the mountain, landing on him and crushing his left leg. The following year was spent undergoing surgeries, leaving him and his family with the decision to amputate. Filmmakers and ultrarunners Billy Yang and Matt Trappe tell the story of Mackey’s perseverance during and after his life-changing accident.
