A masked runner in California gave post office officials quite a scare last week, causing them to call in the bomb squad to investigate.

The man, Long Hoang, 29, claims he was doing a “crossfit” workout when he arrived wearing a gas mask. Hoang told CBS News the mask – which resembled a gas mask – was designed to restrict breathing and simulate training at a high altitude. He also wore a vest packed with 10 pounds of weights.

Hoang, a nursing student, stuffed a package into a mailbox at the busiest post office in San Jose on Nov. 29. CBS News says the bomb squad, firefighters, and the postal inspector closed down nearby streets. The package turned out not to be dangerous.

“Totally big misunderstanding, totally unintended on my part,” Hoang said later. “I won’t do anything like this ever again.”
