Runners take to the streets of Toronto for Pride Run
Toronto’s Pride Run comes right after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled gay marriage a constitutional right for all American citizens. Pride Run celebrates the rights of those in the LGBTQ community. Today’s run was extra special.Â
Every year as part of the Pride celebrations, runners line up to run the 5K Pride Run downtown Toronto to raise money for charities that support the needs of those in the LGBTQ community.
This year at Pride, 1,500 runners ran for three charities: Inside Out, Toronto People with AIDS Foundation and Pride and Remembrance Foundation. Over the years, the run has raised over a million for such charities. This year’s target was $125,000.
Ontario’s premier, Kathleen Wynne, was in attendance today too. She shows up to support the cause every year.
The first wave of the race started at 10:00 a.m. this morning and finished at Church and Wellesley Street– the centre of Toronto’s gay village and major hub in Pride festivities each year. Those who are non-runners interested in supporting LGBTQ rights can also sign up for the 3K walk.
If you couldn’t make it to the race, here’s some shots for social media.
