The World’s Best 10K doubled as the North American, Central American and Caribbean 10K road championships on Sunday morning in San Juan, Puerto Rico with Canada taking the top spot.
The two-person team of Lanni Marchant and Trevor Hofbauer will be bringing home some hardware after the two ran the fastest cumulative time among all countries.
Hofbauer and Marchant combined for a time of 1:02:35. Hofbauer, a Calgary resident, ran 30:20 and Marchant, fresh off a training camp in Kenya, finished in 32:15 for 10K.
Marchant won individual gold in the NACAC event and Hofbauer finished with the bronze in the men’s race. Jim Spisak of the United States won the men’s individual NACAC race in 29:33.
According to the Athletics Canada selection criteria, the winning team takes home US$20,000. The top two Canadian athletes in the 10K from 2015 (and who declared intent to race) were selected to the team.

Hofbauer was added to the team after fellow Canadian Geoff Martinson withdrew due to injury. Apparently, the race bib didn’t reflect the change so Hofbauer had some fun with an adjustment (see below tweet).
