It’s been an exciting two weeks for Olympian and Pan Am Games medallist Sarah Wells. Two weeks ago she signed a multi-year deal with sportswear giant Puma and on May 9, she announced that Winners, a Canadian department store, will be carrying a Sarah Wells activewear collection. With this coming right after Beyonce’s new Ivy Park line, it’s looking like it will be a trendy summer.

“I’m really excited about it,” says Wells. “It’s an amazing opportunity and I feel honoured to be a part of it.”

The Sarah Wells collection consists of activewear basics and essentials, including tanks, tops, sweatshirts, shorts, tights, supportive garments, pants and a running jacket. The items, created by the design team at Kyodan with the help of Wells, range in prices from $9.85 to $59.99. The collection will be available beginning June 1 at Winners locations across Canada.

Wells told Canadian Running that the project has been in the works since the fall and that the timing of the release is ideal in the lead up to the Olympics. Though the 26-year-old has not officially qualified for Rio, she has the Canadian qualifying standard and will look to book her Olympic ticket at the Canadian championships in July.

Wells competes in the 400m hurdles, a one-lap event that requires athletes to jump over barriers. She won a silver medal in her marquee event at the Pan Am Games in Toronto in 2015 and qualified for the semifinals at the 2012 London Olympics.

“I do not have a fashion design background so thankfully Kyodan had their team draw up the boards and they took my brand which is centered around the word “Believe” and then brought elements of my personality and the bright colours and translated it into the clothes,” says Wells. “It was great to be involved in the process and I’m hoping this is just the beginning.”

“Believe,” is incorporated into the line’s design and is seen on many of the collection’s pieces. Check it out below:

“[I’m] hoping that the hype of the event will motivate others to get out there and go after their big goals and potentially do that in the Sarah Wells collection at Winners,” says the Toronto resident in regards to the release being just months out from the Olympics.

Wells’ sponsor, Puma, is also sold at Winners. There are more than 200 Winners locations across Canada.

“My favourite item from the collection is probably the coral-coloured sports bra that has “Believe” along the base strap,” says Wells. “As many athletes know, sport comes with highs and lows but it is an unwavering belief in yourself that will be the spark that ignites your dreams. It’s not always easy, but I’m hopeful this brand can have a positive impact.”
