VIDEO: Eric Gillis looks to win back Canadian 10K road championship
Canada's top finisher in the men's marathon at the 2016 Olympics is back following his withdrawal from Boston and set for his first competitive 10K of 2017
Eric Gillis is set to make his return to racing following his withdrawal from last month’s Boston Marathon.
The 10th place finisher at the Olympics in the men’s marathon has put the setbacks behind him and will look to retain his Canadian 10K road championship from 2015 come Saturday evening. The 37-year-old is the favourite among Canadians at the 2017 Ottawa 10K, which doubles as the national road championships over the distance.
The consistent marathoner is using the race as a indicator of fitness as he prepares for the 2017 IAAF World Championships this summer in London. The Speed River athlete based out of Guelph, Ont. has a lifetime 10K road best of 28:09.
The Ottawa 10K begins at 6:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
