Runner struck and killed by driver in B.C.

The investigation is currently ongoing, say the RCMP

A man in his late 50s was killed running on Gabriola Island, B.C., according to the Gabriola RCMP.

The CBC reports that around 8:15 a.m. PST on Wednesday a driver in a vehicle struck the man who was part of a group running on the road. The identity of the runner, who was transported to hospital where he died from sustained injuries, has not been revealed and the investigation is currently ongoing.

The Province reports that the collision occurred on Berry Point Road near the Twin Beaches Mall in Gabriola, B.C. The report adds that “the vehicle crossed over both traffic lanes” and that the driver remained on the scene.

Gabriola Island, which has a population of approximately 4,000 residents, is located off the coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo.
