VIDEO: Scary fall in the women’s 100m hurdles at the IAAF World Championships
A frightening scene at London 2017 on Friday morning as a Trinidad and Tobago hurdler goes head first into one of the barriers
Trinidad and Tobago’s Deborah John took a nasty spill during the first round of the women’s 100m hurdles at the IAAF World Championships.
Running out of lane four, John had little trouble hurdling the first four barriers but lost her balance approaching the fifth barrier. As her footing went, she went head first into the barrier and needed to be taken off the London track on a stretcher. She ran in heat five of the preliminary round.
According to the Daily Mail, the 27-year-old was put in a head brace as medical personnel attended to her for 10 minutes while on the track. One news outlet reports that medical officials said that “she was fine after treatment.”

Canada’s Phylicia George qualified through to the semifinals out of heat two. She ran 13.01 to earn an automatic qualifying spot to the second of three rounds with the women’s 100m hurdles semifinals going off on Aug. 11 at 2:05 p.m. EDT. Angela Whyte ran 13.23 in the heats and did not advance through to the next round.
