Adidas sells 1 million shoes made of ocean plastics
Adidas is partnered with Parley for the Oceans in an attempt to reduce the amount of plastics in the ocean

Adidas sold an estimated one million pairs of shoes made out of ocean plastics in 2017, CEO Kasper Rorsted told CNBC on Wednesday.
Three lines of Adidas UltraBoost shoes, each made out of 11 reused plastic bottles, use the technology, a partnership with Parley for the Oceans, an environmental organization that “addresses major threats towards our oceans, the most important ecosystem of our planet.”

“We are working with PARLEY to keep plastic out of our oceans and transform it into high-performance sportswear,” reads the description on the Adidas x Parley collection’s website. “Spinning the problem into a solution. The threat into thread.”
In late 2016, Adidas committed to making one million pairs of shoes that reuse trash found in the oceans. The plastics are converted into the threading used for the shoe’s upper on top of UltraBoost cushioning, the brand’s famous midsole technology.
