The 101-year-old global inspiration has retired from the sport after a final 10K victory lap.

Fauja Singh, the world’s most famous 101-year-old athlete, retired from his sport on Sunday.
Singh ran in the Hong Kong Marathon’s 10K event, where he finished in 1:32:28.
Sporting a saffron coloured turban and accompanied by his entourage, the Briton ran comfortably for the last time in competition amongst the 72,000 other participants during the weekend event.
Singh became a global inspirational figure after he ran a marathon at the 2011 Toronto Waterfront Marathon at 100-years-old.
Singh had initially planned to run the full marathon one last time in Hong Kong, but opted to just participate in the 10K instead.
“I am feeling a bit of happiness and a bit of sadness mixed together. I am happy that I am retiring at the top of the game but I am sad that the time has come for me to not be part of it,” Singh told reporters before his race. “And there will always be times in the future where I will be thinking, ‘Well, I used to do that (running),’ ” he continued, through his interpreter, Harmander Singh.
Singh began runnin gat age 89 after the death of his wife and a battle with depression. “From a tragedy has come a lot of success and happiness,” he said before running.
