The Tortured Runners Department: a Swiftie’s take on the new album

This runner has come up with clever ways to relate the new Taylor Swift album to his favourite sport

Runners who identify as “Swifties” have likely already worked Taylor Swift‘s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, into their running playlists since its recent release on April 19. Some particularly dedicated fans, however, have related the singers’s latest album, which explores themes of sorrow, self-awareness and humour, to running.

One creative running influencer, Kevin Chiang, recreated a version of the two-volume tracklist to reflect running. Even those unfamiliar with Swift’s music will find humour in the running-adapted versions of the song titles Chiang has come up with.

The full version can be viewed in the post above, but we’ve rounded up some of our favourites, with explanations where applicable:

  • imgonnagetyouback–ImgonnagetthatPB
  • The Albatross–The Alps We Cross
  • Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus–Brooks or Nike or HOKA or Saucony
  • I Look in People’s Windows–I Look at People’s Stravas
  • Down Bad–Cramping Bad (because there’s nothing worse than a bad cramp during an otherwise wonderful run or race)
  • So Long, London–So Long, London (timely, in view of April 21’s London Marathon)
  • I Can Do It With a Broken Heart–I Can Do it With a Broken Tibia (this one’s for all those runners who have experienced an injury mid-race, but still made it to the finish line)
  • Clara Bow–Eliud Kipchoge (the song was written about an 1920’s “It” girl, so naturally we appreciated the nod to one of running’s greatest)

Taylor Swift uses treadmill workouts to train for Eras Tour

  • thanK you aIMee–Thank you Kelvin (there are various theories on who Swift is thanking in this song, but the running community can certainly appreciate a sincere thank you to the late marathon world record holder, Kelvin Kiptum).
  • The Tortured Poets Department–The Tortured Runners Department
  • My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys–My Boy Only Runs in His Favourite Shoes
