Courtney Dauwalter and François D’haene are arguably the two biggest names in ultrarunning right now. Both have dominated the international ultrarunning circuit over the last few years, winning several of the most prestigious ultra races across the globe, and now Salomon is offering a behind-the-scenes look at their races at this year’s Hardrock 100 and UTMB. (Spoiler alert: d’Haene won both; Dauwalter won one.)

François D’haene claims his fourth victory at UTMB

The movie does a deep dive into the mindset of both athletes as they prepare to tackle the races, and details their preparation as they head into the ultrarunning season. It follows the ups and downs they go through in training and in races, including D’haene’s struggle in his first race back after COVID-19 shut down the previous year’s race season.

D’haene won the Hardrock 100 and broke Kilian Jornet’s course record, but unfortunately, nutrition issues forced Dauwalter to drop out of the race at 62 miles. The movie details how she bounced back from that disappointment to win UTMB in 22:30:54 to break the course record.

WATCH: UTMB from the front of the pack

The film goes into plenty more detail (although you might miss some of it if your French is a little rusty), and is worth the watch for anyone who’s interested in what goes into preparing for and winning two of the world’s most prestigious and challenging ultras.
