92-year-old Harriette Thompson becomes oldest to finish a marathon
The Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon saw an impressive finisher on Sunaday: 92-year-old Harriette Thompson, the oldest runner known to have ever finished a marathon.
Thompson, at 93 years and 65 days, is a month and a half older than the previous oldest marathon finisher, Gladys Burrill, who ran the Honolulu Marathon in 2010.

The Charlotte, N.C., runner lost her husband in January and battled a staph infection, according to a report by the Associated Press. She didn’t start running until her 70s, but has since finished 16.
“I couldn’t train very well because my husband was very ill and I had to be with him for some time and then when he died in January I had some treatments on my leg,” she told AP. “I was just really thrilled that I could finish today.”
Thompson finished the 42.2K race in 7:24:36.
