Another planking record

Plank record by George Hood

Only a week after the Guinness World Record for the longest plank was narrowly broken by a 51-year-old Danish fitness instructor, an American former Marine has bettered the record again.

Though the record-breaking plank at the end of May managed to best the previous mark by only a few minutes, George Hood, a former US Marine, now a fitness instructor in Carlsbad, Calif., planked for 5:15:15, shattering the record by nearly an hour.

Hood was planking to raise money and awareness for the Semper Fi Fund, an organization which helps wounded U.S. veterans.

“There are injured Marines that come back from the fight, who have suffered life-altering injuries and the discomfort that I feel right now pales in comparison to that which they feel,” Hood told NBC, mid-plank.

Hood has set many plank records before, mostly Guinness records, though some independent also. He also once held the stationary bike world record, spinning for over 222 hours.

Before Tom Hoel set his record of 4:28 on May 27, the record was held by China’s Mao Wiedong, a former Chinese SWAT officer.
