The Boston Athletic Association announced today a 2013 Boston Marathon tribute event leading up to this year’s race.

The tribute will be held on April 15, 2014, exactly one year after the race last spring. The event will be hosted by Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Governor Deval L. and Patrick. The Boston One Fund will also be helping organize the tribute.

The event will be held to honour those who were most impacted by the bombs that went off at last year’s event and the first responders, medical staff and organizations that gave their time and effort to help during the aftermath.

“We continue to express our deepest gratitude to all those who courageously reacted to help save lives and we remain committed to showing our support and encouragement for those that were injured or lost a loved one,” said B.A.A. executive director Tom Grilk. “What’s clear is that the bravery and tenacity exhibited in the moments following last year’s events are attributes that continue to define our community today. That’s what we seek to honor at this event.”

The event will be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston but attendance is by invitation only. A list of speakers is expected to be released at a later date.

The Boston Marathon will be held the following Monday, April 21.
