Ben Johnson claims new information proof of ‘sabotage’

Sprinter Ben Johnson isn’t giving up on his quest to clear his name.

Johnson, who was born in Jamaica, but grew up in Toronto, was a panellist at a Jamaican sports symposium in New York, on Thursday night.

After remaining silent for the greater part of the past two decades, Johnson said he now has proof that he was framed.

“It had come to pass that I tested positive in Seoul,” Johnson said. “And it had come to pass 22 years later that I was sabatoged. Put it that way.”

Johnson said his quest to clear his name began four years ago, when he learned the identity of the man he claims spiked his drink in Seoul, causing the positive test for Stanozolol, a type of steroid.

While Johnson has admitted under to oath to taking part in a systematic doping regime, Stanozolol wasn’t part of the program, he said.

The positive test at the 1988 Seoul Olympics cost him his gold medal and his 9.79-second world record.

“I kept a low profile for many years,” he said. “But I’m getting older. It’s time for me to start to speak and come forward.
“And, tell the world exactly what [happened].”

But Johnson is refusing to release any details or provide proof of the sabotage, until he releases his tell-all autobiography Seoul to Soul in September.
