Cam Levins goes pro, signs with Nike

The Blackcreek, B.C. runner seemingly came out of nowhere this season and became a double NCAA champion.

Cam Levins has hit the big time.

Bowerman. Prefontaine. Hayward Field. The swoosh.

These are the symbols of the most recognizable brand in sport.

Now the Canadian track star will be expected to add to that legacy, turning pro and signing a contract with Nike this week.

The Southern Utah University phenom and native of Blackcreek, B.C. seemingly came out of nowhere this season and became the NCAA champion in both the 10,000m and 5000m.

His dominance on the track has also all but guaranteed him a slot on the Canadian Olympic team at both distances. Having run the “A” standard in both, he merely needs to place in the top 3 at the Canadian trials in order to find his way to the start line in London.

The 23-year-old was bowled over by Nike’s first shipment of training equipment to his family home in Victoria. “Getting huge boxes outside my house was quite the surprise,” he told Race Results Weekly from his grandmother’s house. “I felt bad for the FedEx guy who had to deliver it.”

Although he is finished his NCAA career, Levins will remain in Utah for another year to train with Eric Houle, unless of course Nike has other plans for him.
