Three Canadians announced for January’s Camel City Elite races

A number of Canadian elite track athletes are set to appear at the Camel City Elite races in North Carolina on Jan. 30.

A pair of world championship silver medallists and the event’s defending 800m champion will be making the trip down to Winston-Salem, N.C. at the end of January for the Camel City Elite competition at JDL Fast Track.

Considered the fastest 200m track in the U.S., the JDL Fast Indoor Track will host 800m world championship silver medallist Melissa Bishop in her marquee event. World heptathlon silver medallist Brianne Theisen-Eaton is set to compete in the women’s 60-metre hurdles.

Defending 800m champion and 2014 world indoor championship qualifier Jenna Westaway will too compete in the women’s 800m elite race, a year after the Brooks athlete took the race in 2:04.94. Race day is Jan. 30.

Along with Theisen-Eaton, one of track and field’s most popular athletes, Lolo Jones, will be toeing the line for the women’s 60-metre hurdles. Theisen-Eaton has expressed interest on social media in regards to racing a second event at the competition.

Other notable athletes expected to compete include Bernard Lagat, Ashton Eaton (Brianne’s husband), Nick Symmonds and Shannon Rowbury, Greensboro News & Record reports.

The elite races will feature considerable prize money including $4,000 down to $500 for first through fourth including an additional $1,000 bonus for a facility record.

No Canadians have been announced for either the men’s or women’s 3,000m races in North Carolina.
