Coolsaet leads Canadians in world championhip marathon

Reid Coolsaet of Hamilton ran a personal best of 2:16:53 finishing 25th in the marathon at the world track and field championships, Saturday in Berlin.

Kenyans dominated the race, with Abel Kirui setting a championship record of 2:06:54, and teammate Emmanuel Kipchirchir Mutai finishing second in 2:07:48. Ethiopa’s Tsegay Kebede won the bronze medal in a time of 2:08:35.

Coolsaet was the top Canadian, competing in just his second career marathon. His first was the national championship marathon in Ottawa, which he won in a time of 2:17:10, on May 24.

Dylan Wykes, of Kingston, Ont., finished 33rd in 2:18:00. Andrew Smith of Toronto was 53rd and Giitah Macharia of Oakville, Ont., was 56th.
