She may not have made the Olympic marathon team, but Krista DuChene isn't letting that slow her down.

She may not have made the Olympic marathon team, but Krista DuChene isn’t letting that slow her down.

The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon announced on Monday that DuChene, currently Canada’s second-ranked female marathon runner, will run the race on Oct. 14 with the goal of breaking the 2:30 mark at the race.

In April, the 35-year-old Brantford, Ont., mother of three ran the Rotterdam marathon in 2:32:06. She and Lanni Marchant appealed to Athletics Canada for a place on the Olympic team, but as neither woman had met the Canadian qualifying standard, the application and subsequent appeals were denied.

In June, DuChene went on to win the Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon in 1:14:02, and managed to set a new PB. DuChene is planning to run the World Marathon Championships in 2013, and has not ruled out trying to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.

Watch for a profile of DuChene coming in the September issue of Canadian Running Magazine.
