Goodbye track-themed subway station, Hamburg rejects Olympic bid

The beloved track-themed subway was not enough to convince the people of Hamburg to vote in favour of its 2024 Olympic bid.

The German city of Hamburg has voted against hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics, and unfortunately, we may see the end of the track-themed subway of Jungfernstieg.

The subway station was painted in the form of a 400m track in support of the city’s bid for the 2024 Olympics but 51.6 per cent of Hamburg residents voted no in a referendum.

Residents of the German city argued that money earmarked for the Olympic Games could be spent in better ways.

Hamburg was one of five cities remaining for the 2024 Summer Olympics along with Rome, Paris, Budapest and Los Angeles.

Fortunately, Tokyo is also set to unveil a track-themed public display at the airport ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan.
