The second day of the 2016 Hershey Canadian Indoor Championships took place on Saturday with a pair of Canadian hurdlers, Angela Whyte and Nikkita Holder, becoming the top-two ranked women in the nation in the 60m hurdles.

The championships are being held at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal with day three marking the final day of competition on Sunday.

Whyte, a three-time Commonwealth Games medallist, ran 8.09 for fourth, while Holder, who already had world indoor standard, finished fifth in 8.12. American Christina Manning won the event in 7.90.

Canadian standard in the event is 8.14 and is one of the deepest events on the track in terms of Canadian content. The IAAF World Indoor Championships take place in March in Portland, Ore.

Also in an earlier section of the women’s 60m hurdles was Morgan Snow, who last week married professional football player Marquise Goodwin, running 8.28. The Buffalo Bills player is eyeing a spot in Rio despite a focus on gridiron football.

Canadian national team members Fiona Benson and Jenna Westaway came first and third in the women’s invitational 800m with the winning time (2:06:01) being a shade outside of 2:06.

The event also featured a celebrity challenge, featuring retired professional hockey player Georges Laraque, retired Canadian football player Etienne Boulay (his team won the men’s race), and 2008 Olympian Olya Ovtchinnikova (her team won the women’s race). The celebrity challenge was a 4x50m relay event.

Bruny Surin, the co-owner of the Canadian record in the men’s 100m, helped put on the relay event.
