Inspiration Run turns tragedy into triumph for healthy living

The Meredith Hagan Foundation puts on the second annual trial run to raise money and awareness for a healthy lifestyle.

On April 30, 2010 the Burlington running and triathlon community lost Meredtih Staz Hagan. Meredith was out on a bike ride, training for an upcoming event, when she was hit by a car and tragically passed away.

Meredith played an important role in her community as a fitness motivator. She ran marathons including New York City and Boston, and was the co-founder of Phat Chicks, a fitness bootcamp.

Meredith’s family and friends decided to turn this tragedy into a celebration of her enthusiasm for bringing fitness, good health and happiness to others. Their foundation, the Meredith Hagan Foundation, began the Inspiration Run in 2011. The inaugural event, held at Mountsberg Conservation Area in Campbellvile, Ont., was highly successful. 5K and 10K trail runs attracted over 500 people and raised more than 30,000 dollars for R.O.C.K. (Reach Out Centre for Kids) and the Livestrong Foundation.

Each year this event will donate its proceeds to a different series of charities that focus on children, fitness and the promotion of healthy living. This year’s charity will be the Halton Food for Thought program, which is a children’s healthy eating program.

The Inspiration Run takes place June 23. The event will again include 5K and 10K options at Mountsberg Conservation Area.
