The double gold medallist at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing said he has not yet decided what events (10,000m or the marathon) he will be running at Rio 2016. Bekele did note that he has achieved everything there is to do in both the 5,000m and 10,000m.

“I started running just randomly,” added Bekele when asked how he initially got into the sport. “I was around 15 then; it was quite a late start for me, but within two years I was winning medals.”

Bekele, 33, goes onto to say that his favourite races were the IAAF World Championships 5,000m and 10,000m in 2009 where the Ethiopian won a pair of gold medals in a historic double.

When asked whether Mo Farah can break his records, Bekele told Live Mint:

Mo Farah can’t break my records at the moment. It’s hard for him, simply because if you look at his best timings, it is still very far from my record. At the moment, there is nobody who can break my record; but of course, we never know, a newcomer, a new generation will come. And if athletics keeps getting better, like it is, of course someone will break my record.

Historically, the two greats have gone back and forth with one of their most memorable runs being the 2013 BUPA Great North Run.
