Megan Brown joins Brooks Marathon Project

Three-time CIS XC champion, Megan Brown, joins the Brooks Marathon Project and prepares for Canadian Half Marathon Championships.

After a great varsity career with the U of T Blues, Megan Brown is setting her sights on the roads. The three-time CIS cross country champion is currently training for the Canadian Half Marathon Championships, to be held this April in Montreal. Canadian Running’s Chris Lepik was able to catch up with Brown to ask about her running plans.

“Now that I am officially a post collegiate athlete, I am a member of the Brooks Marathon Project,” Brown told Lepik.

But she won’t be rushed into her first marathon, adding that her she isn’t planning to make her debut at the 42.195K-distance until 2013.

Brown is targeting a quick half marathon in April as her short-term goal.

“After that, it will be back to some of the middle distances for the summer — I will aim for a fast road 10K and then have some fun with the 5000m and even 1500m on the track.”

Brown still feels she has a lot of room, mentally and physically, to grow in the 5K and 10K distances.

“But having [the marathon] as the ultimate goal helps give big picture focus to the training.”
