Mo Farah handily outdid the strongest 5,000m field assembled so far this year in Lausanne, Switzerland, Thursday, showing he is in shape to defend both his 5,000m and 10,000m titles from the 2013 Moscow world championships later this summer.

The 32-year-old won the race in 13:11.77, a relatively modest time given the entrants in the race, sprinting away from the field on the final lap with the strong kick he’s become known for and which won him 5,000m and 10,000m titles at both the 2013 world championships and 2012 Olympics.

The race was Farah’s first since accusations of doping surfaced about his Oregon Project coach Alberto Salazar. Farah dropped out of an earlier Diamond League race in Birmingham last month amid the allegations, which don’t name him but are linked through both Salazar and teammate Galen Rupp.

“I’ve answered all the questions as an athlete and all I want to do now is do what I do best and run and enjoy it,” Farah told the BBC after his race.

Salazar denied any wrongdoing in a 12,000-word response to the allegations, brought on by a joint BBC-ProPublica  investigation.

Farah is scheduled to step down in distance and race the 1,500m at the upcoming Monaco Diamond League meet.

Also Thursday Justin Gatlin, the world’s top sprinter stretched in win streak to 26 races and solidifying his position as the man to beat as world championships approach. He won the 100m in 9.75 seconds.
